When you set up YourPING, one of the most important steps is to choose your trusted contacts. These are the people who may be alerted if you miss your daily check-in. It sounds simple, and that is exactly the point. YourPING is designed to be straightforward, clear and easy to understand ...

Trusted contacts play a vital role in your check in sequence, ensuring a safe and efficient back up when needed

Trusted contacts play a vital role in your check in sequence, ensuring a safe and efficient back up when needed

A trusted contact can be a friend, neighbour, family member, or anyone else you know well and feel comfortable involving in your check-in routine. The key is trust. This should be someone who genuinely wants to know if something might be wrong and is willing to check in on you if needed.

In many cases, people choose someone who already plays a regular
role in their lives, even if they do not speak every day!

When adding a trusted contact to your YourPING dashboard, you only need a few details. You must enter their first name and either a mobile number, an email address, or both, depending on how you want the system to contact them.

Some people prefer SMS alerts because they are immediate and hard to miss. Others prefer email, especially if the trusted contact is often working or travelling. Using both options provides an extra layer of reassurance, but the choice is entirely yours.

One thing that really matters is making sure your
trusted contact knows they have been added!

This is not a secret emergency list hidden away in the background. If somebody receives an unexpected message saying they have missed a check-in, confusion helps nobody. A quick conversation beforehand makes a huge difference.

It allows you to explain what YourPING is, how your check-ins work, and what you would like them to do if they ever receive an alert.

For most people, that conversation is reassuring rather than awkward. It brings clarity. Your trusted contact understands why they are included, and you gain confidence knowing that someone will notice if you don't check in.

Importantly, YourPING is not designed to replace emergency services, healthcare support or professional monitoring systems. It is simply a practical way to help people stay connected in a world where many of us live alone, work remotely, or can easily go quiet for a few days without anyone noticing.

Sometimes peace of mind comes from the simplest ideas. Knowing that somebody would notice can make a surprisingly big difference.

Until next time ...

About Steffi Lewis ...

Steffi Lewis

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.

YourPING was created around a very modern idea: in a world of remote work, automated living and digital communication, it has become surprisingly easy for people to quietly drift off the radar. Bills are paid automatically, shopping arrives online and many people can go days without speaking to someone directly, even while remaining connected to the world through screens and social media.

Designed as a calm and supportive daily check-in system, YourPING helps provide quiet reassurance for people who live alone, work remotely, travel frequently or simply value their independence. Using browser notifications, SMS backup alerts, email escalation and trusted contacts, the platform is intentionally simple to use without complicated gadgets, wearables or intrusive monitoring.

At its heart, YourPING is not about fear or surveillance. It is about modern independent living and the simple comfort of knowing that if something feels unusual, somebody will notice.

My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💚
