Discover how YourPING brought peace of mind to one daughter's hectic life

What I didn't expect was that one of the first subscribers would show me a completely different way the service could help. Meet my friend Kirsty and her mum, Linda, who is in her late 70s and lives alone. Since the death of her father a few years ago, Kirsty naturally found herself worrying more about her mum's well-being.

Although family members visit Linda regularly, there are
still many days when she is on her own!

Like many daughters with elderly parents, she wasn't really worried about loneliness. They were about what might happen if her mum fell, became unwell, or simply couldn't get to the phone. Linda wasn't in the best of health and had become quite sedentary, which only added to those concerns.

When I first told Kirsty about YourPING, I explained that it was designed for remote workers. Her response was immediate. "What about my mum?" It was one of those moments where somebody sees a use for your product that you hadn't fully considered yourself.

A few small changes later, YourPING became something that could support older people living independently as well as people working alone.

Today, Linda receives three simple SMS check-ins per day. One at 10am, one at 5pm, and one at 10pm. There are no apps to install and no complicated technology to learn. She simply responds to the text message to let Kirsty know she's okay.

If she doesn't respond, YourPING
automatically alerts Kirsty!

There has only been one missed check-in so far, and thankfully, it turned into a funny story rather than a worrying one. Linda was sitting outside on the patio with Kirsty, enjoying the sunshine, and had left her phone inside the house. When Kirsty received the notification that her mum had missed a check-in, they both burst out laughing.

In many ways, it was the perfect test. The system worked exactly as it was supposed to.

What Kirsty values most is the reassurance. She knows that if something genuinely isn't right, she will find out quickly. That constant background worry has largely disappeared because there is now a simple process in place.

For Linda, the benefit is a little different. She loves the check-ins because she knows that if she misses one, Kirsty will be there within the hour. Rather than reducing her independence, it actually helps her maintain it.

Kirsty has told me that YourPING is excellent value for money at just £9.99 per month. For less than the cost of a takeaway, she gets the reassurance that her mum is okay, while Linda gets the confidence to continue living independently.

Today, Linda checks in three times a day, Kirsty worries less, and both know that if something unusual happens, someone will notice.

Sometimes the best ideas really do come from your customers.

Until next time ...

About Steffi Lewis ...

Steffi Lewis

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.

YourPING was created around a very modern idea: in a world of remote work, automated living and digital communication, it has become surprisingly easy for people to quietly drift off the radar. Bills are paid automatically, shopping arrives online and many people can go days without speaking to someone directly, even while remaining connected to the world through screens and social media.

Designed as a calm and supportive daily check-in system, YourPING helps provide quiet reassurance for people who live alone, work remotely, travel frequently or simply value their independence. Using browser notifications, SMS backup alerts, email escalation and trusted contacts, the platform is intentionally simple to use without complicated gadgets, wearables or intrusive monitoring.

At its heart, YourPING is not about fear or surveillance. It is about modern independent living and the simple comfort of knowing that if something feels unusual, somebody will notice.

My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💚
