Why I created YourPING: A simple daily reassurance check-in service

#YourPING #DailyReassurance #EasyCheckIn #OKNotification #NoAppRequired

YourPING started with a very simple idea: what if there was an easy daily reassurance check-in that let someone know you were OK, without requiring an app, extra hardware, constant phone calls, or someone constantly checking up on you?

The only British daily check-in service. No apps. No hardware. No worries ... just simple reassurance!

The only British daily check-in service. No apps. No hardware. No worries ... just simple reassurance!

The idea came from thinking about people who live alone, people whose families may not live nearby, and anyone who simply wants the reassurance that someone will notice if they don't respond. A daily reassurance check-in could provide that small connection without being intrusive or taking away someone's independence.

That thought eventually became the
mission of YourPING!

The phrase "Because someone should notice if you don't check in" is very personal. For me, that sums up exactly what YourPING is supposed to do. Most of the time, checking in should be completely uneventful. You receive your check-in, confirm you're OK and carry on with your day. But what happens on the day you don't?

Maybe you've fallen. Maybe you're unwell. Perhaps you're struggling and would actually like somebody to contact you. YourPING doesn't try to diagnose what has happened. It doesn't judge you. It simply notices that something is different and can let someone you trust know.

From the beginning, I wanted YourPING to be straightforward. You shouldn't need specialist equipment or have to learn complicated technology. A check-in can arrive, you respond, and that's it. It takes a few seconds at most. And importantly, YourPING isn't about surveillance. We don't need to know where you are or what you're doing. We just need to know whether you've checked in.

That distinction matters to me!

The aim is reassurance while preserving independence. I don't want people to feel watched, monitored or as though someone is constantly looking over their shoulder. YourPING should sit quietly in the background and only become noticeable when it needs to be.

What began as an idea for individuals naturally grew. If a daily check-in can provide reassurance for one person and their family, could the same principle help a community group support its members? Could charities and other organisations use it too?

That thinking led to YourPING Group Check-Ins, allowing organisations and community groups to offer the same simple reassurance to multiple people while quickly seeing who has checked in and who may need someone to reach out. And that, in turn, has helped shape The YourPING Foundation and our wider ambition for the future.

I don't want YourPING to replace human contact!

Quite the opposite, in fact. Technology should help us notice when human contact might be needed. Which means most YourPING check-ins will hopefully end with a simple confirmation that everything is fine. But if one missed check-in results in somebody receiving a call, a message or a knock on the door when they genuinely need it, then that simple system has done something worthwhile.

That's why I created YourPING, and why I still believe something as small as a daily reassurance check-in can make a meaningful difference to individuals, families and communities.

Because someone should notice if you don't check in.

Until next time ...

About Steffi Lewis ...

Steffi Lewis

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.

YourPING was created around a very modern idea: in a world of remote work, automated living and digital communication, it has become surprisingly easy for people to quietly drift off the radar. Bills are paid automatically, shopping arrives online and many people can go days without speaking to someone directly, even while remaining connected to the world through screens and social media.

Designed as a calm and supportive daily check-in system, YourPING helps provide quiet reassurance for people who live alone, work remotely, travel frequently or simply value their independence. Using browser notifications, SMS backup alerts, email escalation and trusted contacts, the platform is intentionally simple to use without complicated gadgets, wearables or intrusive monitoring.

At its heart, YourPING is not about fear or surveillance. It is about modern independent living and the simple comfort of knowing that if something feels unusual, somebody will notice.

My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💚
