When I first started building YourPING, the idea was simple: someone should notice if you don't check in. It began as a way to give individuals and families extra reassurance without constant phone calls, complicated technology, or intrusive monitoring. But as YourPING developed, it became clear that the same simple idea could play a much wider role in community wellbeing ...
Helping people stay connected and supporting community projects that make a real difference
Some people will always be happy and able to subscribe to YourPING themselves. An older parent living independently, somebody living alone, or a family wanting a little extra peace of mind can simply choose the service that suits them.
That's the retail side of YourPING, and it's an important part of making what we're building sustainable!
But what about people who could benefit from regular check-ins but won't discover YourPING online and buy a subscription themselves? What about charities, community organisations, supported living services and voluntary groups that already know those people and support them every day?
That's why we're building The YourPING Foundation CIC. The Foundation lets us work alongside voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations, often known collectively as VCSE organisations, as well as other community and public-sector partners.
Rather than expecting every individual to find and subscribe to YourPING themselves, organisations can use group check-ins to support the people they already work with.
The principle doesn't change. Someone receives a simple check-in and responds to let someone know they're OK. If they don't respond, or tell us they're not OK, somebody knows it's time to reach out. What changes is the scale at which we can provide that reassurance.
Retail and social impact can work together!
I don't see the commercial side of YourPING and the Foundation as competing. I see them as two sides of the same coin. The retail service lets individuals and families pay for YourPING directly and check in with a single person. As that side grows, my aim is for it to help create a sustainable platform and infrastructure that can also support our wider social mission.
The Foundation, meanwhile, gives us the structure to work with community organisations, develop partnerships and seek funding for projects designed around particular groups or communities. That might mean supporting ten people through a small local organisation today and, eventually, thousands of check-ins across many different communities.
Grant funding can also help us explore where YourPING can make a difference without expecting recipients to pay for it themselves.
That could mean funding a pilot programme with a community organisation, supporting people experiencing isolation, or helping a charity add a simple daily reassurance check-in as an extra layer of support.
We're also developing a Civic Fund!
The Civic Fund has a wider purpose. It will let us support community projects, ideas, and organisations working to make a positive difference, helping good initiatives get started, develop, or reach more people.
That support might sometimes involve YourPING check-ins, but it could also mean helping another community project succeed on its own. The important thing is that funding creates meaningful, measurable impact for the communities it is intended to support.
Technology should support human connection, not replace it!
YourPING isn't intended to replace families, friends, carers, charities or community organisations. In fact, it's built around the opposite idea. Technology can notice that something hasn't happened. A person can then call, knock on the door, send a message, or ask, “Are you OK?" That's the relationship I want YourPING to strengthen.
And because YourPING doesn't require an app, specialist equipment, or complicated technology, we can keep that interaction deliberately simple.
Measuring what actually matters!
As the Foundation grows, I also want us to measure our impact openly. That means looking beyond subscriptions or revenue and measuring things like how many check-ins are completed, how many people we support individually and through the community, how many groups use YourPING, and, importantly, how often a check-in leads to someone reaching out. Because those are the numbers that tell us whether we're actually doing what we set out to do.
The YourPING Foundation is still early in its journey. We'll learn from pilot programmes, listen to the organisations we work with and the people using the service, and change things when we can.
But the ambition is much bigger than simply building another technology company. I want the retail side of YourPING to become a successful, sustainable service. And I want that success to help us extend simple reassurance into communities where it can make a genuine difference.
For me, that's what community wellbeing should be about!
Not replacing human connection with technology, but using tech for good to help people stay connected. Technology can give us useful tools, spot when something hasn't happened, and make communication easier, but ultimately people make the difference.
A message, a phone call, a knock on the door, or simply knowing someone is paying attention can turn a digital check-in into genuine human reassurance.
And that's the wider ambition for The YourPING Foundation. We want to help build stronger, better-connected communities where people feel noticed, supported and able to look out for one another. Sometimes that will happen through YourPING directly, sometimes through partnerships with community and VCSE organisations, and sometimes by helping other worthwhile projects through initiatives such as our Civic Fund.
We don't need every good idea to be ours. If we can help something that strengthens a community to succeed, that's part of the impact we want the Foundation to have.
Until next time ...

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.
YourPING was created around a very modern idea: in a world of remote work, automated living and digital communication, it has become surprisingly easy for people to quietly drift off the radar. Bills are paid automatically, shopping arrives online and many people can go days without speaking to someone directly, even while remaining connected to the world through screens and social media.
Designed as a calm and supportive daily check-in system, YourPING helps provide quiet reassurance for people who live alone, work remotely, travel frequently or simply value their independence. Using browser notifications, SMS backup alerts, email escalation and trusted contacts, the platform is intentionally simple to use without complicated gadgets, wearables or intrusive monitoring.
At its heart, YourPING is not about fear or surveillance. It is about modern independent living and the simple comfort of knowing that if something feels unusual, somebody will notice.
My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💚
