Why YourPING is more than just another app

#YourPING #Connection #Reassurance #Independence #SafetyFirst

It would be easy to describe YourPING as an app, but that doesn't really explain what we're trying to achieve. The technology is simply the mechanism behind something much more human: connection, reassurance, independence and making sure somebody notices if you don't check in ...

We're not trying to replace human contact with technology, YourPING idesigned to offer an extra layer of reassurance

We're not trying to replace human contact with technology, YourPING idesigned to offer an extra layer of reassurance

In fact, for most people, setting up YourPING doesn't involve an app at all. You use your desktop PC or Mac to sign up, set up your account, choose your check-in times, decide who you're checking in on, add trusted contacts and manage your subscription.

Once everything is set up, check-ins happen through something
everyone already understands: SMS text messages!

That's deliberate. We don't want people to have to download and then learn a new piece of technology just to tell somebody they're OK. You don't need the latest smartphone either. If your mobile phone can receive and reply to an SMS message, it can be part of YourPING.

But the technology isn't really the important bit. What matters is what it enables.

For somebody living independently, a regular check-in can provide reassurance that if something changes, somebody will notice. It doesn't mean being watched or monitored. YourPING doesn't need to know where you are, what you're doing or where you've been. You simply respond to your check-in and carry on with your day.

For family members, friends and other trusted contacts, it provides reassurance without requiring them to constantly check up on somebody. Most days there is nothing for them to do at all.

It's when something changes that YourPING
becomes more noticeable!

If somebody misses their check-in and still hasn't responded after an hour, their trusted contacts can be informed. The same happens if someone responds, but tells YourPING they're not OK. Instead of technology trying to decide what is wrong or what should happen next, somebody the person knows and trusts can reach out.

That might mean a trusted contact making a phone call, sending a message or going round to check whether they need some help. The important thing is that a human being has been made aware.

That distinction is at the heart of YourPING. We're not trying to replace families, friends, neighbours, carers or communities with technology. We're using technology to help those human connections work when they're needed.

Independence matters too!

Reassurance shouldn't mean surrendering your privacy or feeling as though somebody is constantly looking over your shoulder. YourPING is designed to sit quietly in the background, ask a very simple question, and respect the answer.

Most check-ins will hopefully be completely uneventful. A message arrives, you reply that you're OK, and everyone carries on with their day. But when you don't check in, or you tell us you're not OK, YourPING helps make sure somebody notices.

That's why YourPING is more than just an app. The technology makes the check-in possible, but the human connection that follows is what really matters.

Until next time ...

About Steffi Lewis ...

Steffi Lewis

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.

YourPING was created around a very modern idea: in a world of remote work, automated living and digital communication, it has become surprisingly easy for people to quietly drift off the radar. Bills are paid automatically, shopping arrives online and many people can go days without speaking to someone directly, even while remaining connected to the world through screens and social media.

Designed as a calm and supportive daily check-in system, YourPING helps provide quiet reassurance for people who live alone, work remotely, travel frequently or simply value their independence. Using browser notifications, SMS backup alerts, email escalation and trusted contacts, the platform is intentionally simple to use without complicated gadgets, wearables or intrusive monitoring.

At its heart, YourPING is not about fear or surveillance. It is about modern independent living and the simple comfort of knowing that if something feels unusual, somebody will notice.

My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💚
